The location-based, digital 3D sculpture Flower Crown by artist Elizabeth Thallauer addresses the ongoing loss of global biological diversity. Driven by climate change and intensive land use, natural habitats are disappearing worldwide. The artwork focuses specifically on plant species that are already extinct in Germany—many of which were once closely linked to historical linen production and displaced by agricultural reshaping.

Flower Crown visualizes this ecological loss, confronting viewers with the destructive human impact on the environment. At the same time, the installation uses the medium of art to seek a form of reflection and reconciliation with what has been lost.

The launch of the artwork on August 6 — the anniversary of Theodor W. Adorno’s death—serves as a quiet nod to the philosopher's enduring legacy and relevance. As a former Adorno fellow, Thallauer connects her work to a central concept from his Aesthetic Theory that remains deeply impactful today:

“In artworks, the spirit is no longer the old enemy of nature. It softens into the reconciling spirit.”

Elizabeth Thallauer works across various artistic formats and interdisciplinary projects. Her research-based practice operates at the intersection of art and science. Grounded in her background in sculpture, she develops installation-based, cross-media works. These projects explore speculative future scenarios and technologically mediated realities. She has participated in numerous international projects, exhibitions, and experimental formats across Europe.
